About me

Greetings! My name is Eric McKinney and I am a web developer who loves to code, play drums, be outside, and explore the world.

My journey to web development was not your typical one. Straight after high school, I joined a band with a friend of mine to tour the country and play music. From there, I worked a variety of jobs, from fueling airplanes in Minnesota to assisting sound and AV engineers for TV shows, music videos, and commercials in Los Angeles, CA. It was a wild ride, but I learned so much along the way.

Eventually, I found my calling in the tech industry, working for an e-commerce company that sold high-end fountain pens. I was thrilled when we needed a new website, and I jumped at the chance to build it myself. Turns out, I had a lot to learn, (who knew making a website was so difficult!?!) but I was determined to master coding. I enrolled in a coding boot camp and emerged with a new skill set and passion for building great software.

These days, I'm a Lead Developer for a government contracting company working for the Department of Homeland Security, where I get to lead a team and work on innovative projects every day. When I'm not working, I'm jamming with fellow musicians, tinkering with Raspberry Pi's, and learning new coding languages and frameworks. I'm also a big believer in restorative justice and have been volunteering with a local program since 2018.

Overall, I'm a creative problem-solver who loves tackling new challenges and exploring new avenues. Whether it's building software, making music, or traveling the world, I'm always looking for ways to grow and learn. If you're interested in working together, collaborating on a project, or just want to chat about tech, music, or anything else, please don't hesitate to reach out!
